Manchester United are hoping Edwin van der Sar will take up a coaching role

Manchester United are hoping Edwin van der Sar will take up a coaching role when his playing days come to an end this season.

The Daily Mail has reported that the shot-stopper, 40, has reiterated his intention to quit at the end of the campaign, however, the multi-lingual Dutchman will offer his services as a coach in order to ensure a smooth transition for his successor.

Favourite to take over the No1 jersey is Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea.
